Leveling the Playing Field:
Wisconsin’s goes smoke-free on July 5, 2010
Wisconsin is just weeks away from the new smoke-free law taking effect. July 5, 2010 marks the first day of a statewide mandate that creates uniform rules against smoking indoors. The legislation impacting Wisconsin restaurants had been years in the making and officially passed in May of last year.
The new law levels the playing field for Wisconsin’s food and beverage businesses. Currently, 38 municipalities across the state have local smoking ordinances in place, creating a hodgepodge of smoking bans and an uneven playing field depending upon where a business is located.
Numerous restaurants across the state are not waiting for July to go smoke-free. Voluntary efforts have been made by many to satisfy customer requests or ease the transition for clientele.
