I want to personally invite you to join with other restaurant owners, managers, employees and suppliers for Restaurant Lobby Day - March 2. More than ever, elected officials on both sides of the aisle are asking to hear the voices of their constituents. That means you!
A good turnout is essential on Wednesday, March 2. This day will set the tone for your association for the entire legislative session. It is especially important to make our industry's presence known because there are 38 brand new, highly motivated legislators in the Capitol. Many of them know very little about our industry. They need to be educated on our issues so they understand how laws and regulations affect our industry, and they don't have to make assumptions.
Key issues we may lobby on:
- Tourism Promotion Funding
- Elimination of Paid Sick Leave Ordinances
- Positive Effects of the Smoke-Free Law
- Defend the September 1st School Starting Date
In addition, there will be other issues that won't be determined until the Biennial Budget Bill is introduced next week. We will be among the first groups in the Capitol to voice our opinions on the State Budget.
Also, we need to let legislators know that we appreciate the very tough votes they've taken already this session to improve the business climate in Wisconsin, on issues such as lawsuit reform, small business tax cuts and the state budget deficit. Restaurant Lobby Day gives us this opportunity.
We know this means a day away from your business. We also know that, if you have never attended Lobby Day before, you may be hesitant. What I can promise you is that when you go to the Hill, you will not be alone and you will be fully informed on the issues. When the day is over, you will have had a lot of fun and you will feel like you truly made a difference. That's my promise. Won't you join us?
