WRA Involved in Food Protection on National Level
Education Foundation Director selected for leadership position on the National Conference for Food Protection

The Executive Director of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Education Foundation, Susan Quam, was recently selected for a leadership position on the Council II of the National Conference for Food Protection.

The National Conference for Food Protection (CFP) presents a Biennial Meeting to help guide future modifications to the FDA’s Model Food Code by recommending changes and refinements. The Food Code is critical for restaurants since many states and localities adopt the Code in whole or in part to regulate food safety and sanitation in restaurants.

At CFP’s 2012 Biennial Meeting, recently held in Indianapolis, Quam participated as one of 22 people on Council II. Council II is charged with debating submitted issues relating to administration, education, and certification. This council oversees the standards for food protection manager certification, training and certification of food safety inspectors, mandated training in the Food Code and FDA Program Standards for state and local health departments, along with other issues relating to the governance of the Conference. Quam has served on Council II a total of four times.

During the 2012 Biennial Meeting, Quam was selected to serve as Vice Chair of Council II of the National Conference for Food Protection through the 2014 Biennial Meeting and to serve as Chair at the 2016 Biennial Meeting. She is now also a non-voting member of the CFP Executive Board. Quam is the only state association restaurant representative in the U.S. on either Council II or the Executive Board.

Members of the CFP Executive Board hold positions of great influence within the food safety realm. Quam’s appointment to the board is quite an honor for our state and is an indication of how WRA works on behalf of the foodservice and hospitality industry at the national level.
