Owner of Local Restaurant Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

James Wilson, owner of Caffé Espresso in Green Bay, was honored as the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Green Bay Chapter, made up of Shawano, Brown and Outagamie counties.

The OROY award was presented to Wilson on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at a WRA chapter meeting. Wilson was also presented a Legislative Citation acknowledging corporate citizenship. On Tuesday, March 22, Wilson will be honored once again with a commendation medal at the 2011 WRA Awards Dinner gala, taking place at the InterContinental Hotel in downtown Milwaukee. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the WRA Green Bay Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

Affectionately known as the “Godfather of Washington Street” because of his longevity as a downtown restaurant owner, Wilson has owned his business for over 25 years. Caffé Espreso is a landmark establishment specializing in espresso and coffee drinks and Italian cuisine. Wilson’s restaurant has been named the “Best Location for a Business Lunch” by Company magazine and has earned the “Golden Fork Award.” Located adjacent to the Meyer Theatre, it attracts an eclectic clientele as well as occasional visits from celebrities that perform at the Meyer, such as Hal Holbrook, Tori Amos and Dave Mason.

Wilson has been active in the WRA at the chapter level for many years. He also participates in community and civic activities, including the Tavern League of Wisconsin and Downtown Green Bay Incorporated.
