FVTC Chef Honored with Salute to Excellence Award
Chef John Balistrieri, of Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) in Appleton, is honored as the chef recipient for the 2012 Salute to Excellence Awards, presented by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The Foundation presents Chef John Balistrieri with the Chef Award for his dedication to excellence in foodservice.
Chef Balistrieri is a leading Wisconsin chef, strong foodservice leader and industry mentor who is passionate about the restaurant industry. Since his apprenticeship in the 1970’s, he has mentored countless cooks and chefs, many of whom are still in foodservice. Chef Balistrieri is highly skilled, very patient and keeps abreast of changing times – important traits for an individual that is currently responsible for all foodservice and catering operations at Fox Valley Technical College.
“As he nears the conclusion of his career, this is an appropriate award recognizing his lifetime achievements,” said fellow Chef Instructor, Jeff Igel. “He is definitely deserving as the chef recipient Salute to Excellence Award.”
The WRA Education Foundation proudly presents Chef John Balistrieri with the 2012 Salute to Excellence Chef Award.
“Chef Balistrieri is passionate about the restaurant industry and education,” says Bryan Mowry, Managing Director of the WRA Education Foundation. “Throughout his career, he has been an amazing foodservice leader and industry mentor.”
Each year, the WRA EF recognizes five individuals and one company for dedication and commitment to education in the restaurant industry as Salute to Excellence honorees. Other 2012 Salute to Excellence honorees include: Chef John Johnson (Madison College, Madison), Ed Klinger (Moose Inn Supper Club & Catering, Wautoma), Glenda McCracken (Orfordville Parkview High School, Orfordville), Bruce Wolf, FMP, CMA (Rock Garden Conference Center, Green Bay) and Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. Each honoree creates opportunities for people interested in foodservice industry careers. They have worked in a variety of roles, in different parts of the state, but they share an enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the restaurant industry.
The Salute to Excellence awards are presented at the 2012 Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, October 14 at The Crystal Room at Buffalo Phil’s Grille in the Wisconsin Dells. More information on the event is available at www.wirestaurant.org.
