Madison College Instructor Honored with Salute to Excellence Award
Chef John Johnson, CEC, CCE, ACE from Madison College is honored as the college educator recipient for the 2012 Salute to Excellence Awards, presented by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The College Educator Award is given to Chef John Johnson for his dedication to teaching others and for his commitment to the foodservice industry.
Chef Johnson is passionate about culinary education, contributing countless hours to the future of the hospitality industry. He is well-respected by students, colleagues and industry professionals for his enthusiasm and expertise, as he tirelessly gives his time and talents helping students reach their potential.
Chef Johnson has been an instructor at Madison College for over twelve years. He was among the first college instructors to compete in the American Culinary Federation (ACF) competitions once held at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo and is now a coach for both Madison’s ACF and College Culinary Arts competition teams. In addition, Johnson is working with other instructors to organize a Madison ACF Chapter and host an ACF Regional Conference and Competition in Madison.
“Chef Johnson encouraged his students to watch him compete and to listen to the tough critiques he received from the ACF judges during competition,” said fellow Chef Instructor, RC Schroeder. “With this act he showed the mark of a good teacher: leading by example.”
In addition to his work at the college and ACF, Chef Johnson is also a supporter of WRA, a member and leader in the American Culinary Federation (ACF), a volunteer judge for the Foundation’s college competitions held at the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo and a presenter at Teacher Training sessions for the ProStart® program for high school students.
“Chef Johnson’s enthusiasm for education really motivates and inspires students to strive and achieve great things in foodservice and hospitality,” said Bryan Mowry, Managing Director of the WRA Education Foundation.
The WRA Education Foundation proudly presents Chef John Johnson with the 2012 Salute to Excellence College Educator Award for his contributions to education, the community and the foodservice industry.
Each year, the WRA EF recognizes five individuals and one company for dedication and commitment to education in the restaurant industry as Salute to Excellence honorees. Other 2012 Salute to Excellence honorees include: Chef John Balistrieri (Fox Valley Technical College, Appleton), Ed Klinger (Moose Inn Supper Club & Catering, Wautoma), Glenda McCracken (Orfordville Parkview High School, Orfordville), Bruce Wolf, FMP, CMA (Rock Garden Conference Center, Green Bay) and Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. Each honoree creates opportunities for people interested in foodservice industry careers. They have worked in a variety of roles, in different parts of the state, but they share an enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the restaurant industry.
The Salute to Excellence awards are presented at the 2012 Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, October 14 at The Crystal Room at Buffalo Phil’s Grille in the Wisconsin Dells. More information on the event is available at www.wirestaurant.org.
