Orfordville Parkview High School Teacher Honored with Salute to Excellence Award
Orfordville Parkview High School teacher Glenda McCracken is honored as the High School Educator recipient for the 2012 Salute to Excellence Awards, presented by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Education Foundation. The 2012 High School Educator Award is given to McCracken for her dedication to the foodservice industry and her passion for teaching.
McCracken is a family and consumer educator and ProStart® instructor at Orfordville Parkview High School. ProStart®, administered by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and state restaurant associations, is a college prep, two-year curriculum designed to teach high school students the skills needed for a career in the restaurant and foodservice industry. As part of the program, McCracken encourages her students to compete in Wisconsin’s ProStart® Invitational culinary competitions held during the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo and has taken a team to the competition for the past several years.
“Glenda works hard to help students who are interested in the industry get the help they need to succeed,” says Tyler Long, a ProStart® graduate that earned a Certificate of Achievement for the program and also the student who nominated McCracken for the award.
“Glenda McCracken has shown incredible dedication to the Foundation and the foodservice industry,” says Bryan Mowry, Managing Director of the WRA Education Foundation. “Her enthusiasm for teaching really makes a difference to her students, the community and the future of the foodservice industry.”
McCracken’s contributions to education, extracurricular programming and Foundation work all combine to make her a well-deserving recipient of this award. Her commitment to the ProStart® program and activities are to be recognized and commended.
Each year, the WRA EF recognizes five individuals and one company for dedication and commitment to education in the restaurant industry as Salute to Excellence honorees. Other 2012 Salute to Excellence honorees include: Chef John Balistrieri (Fox Valley Technical College, Appleton), Chef John Johnson (Madison College, Madison), Ed Klinger (Moose Inn Supper Club & Catering, Wautoma), Bruce Wolf, FMP, CMA (Rock Garden Conference Center, Green Bay) and Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. Each honoree creates opportunities for people interested in foodservice industry careers. They have worked in a variety of roles, in different parts of the state, but they share an enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the restaurant industry.
The Salute to Excellence awards are presented at the 2012 Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, October 14 at The Crystal Room at Buffalo Phil’s Grille in the Wisconsin Dells. More information on the event is available at www.wirestaurant.org.
