Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Dawn Bathazor, co-owner of Romy’s Nitingale banquet hall located in Black Creek, was honored as the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Big Four Chapter, made up of Waupaca, Outagamie, Winnebago and Green Lake counties.

The OROY award will be presented to Balthazor on January 14th at a WRA chapter meeting held at Fox Banquets in Appleton. Sen. Robert Cowles and Rep. Jim Steineke have been invited to present a Legislative Citation to Balthazor.

On Tuesday, March 12, Balthazor will also be honored with a commendation medal at the 2013 WRA Awards Dinner gala, taking place at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Milwaukee. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the Big Four Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

Balthazor has been in the restaurant industry for over 39 years. Working at Romy’s, the family business, was the first job she ever had and she’s been with the banquet hall her entire career. Romy’s is the host to weddings, anniversaries and parties of all types and serves well over 1,000 people on holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Mother’s Day. Balthazor loves her job and is most proud of building the business with her brother, Keith. Romy’s was originally started by her parents and grandparents in 1967.

Balthazor is very active in the community. She hosts a Ms. Society fundraising banquet and supports several local organizations including Altrusa, Habitat for Humanity as well as local church activities and sports teams.

Balthazor has shown strong support for the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and the restaurant industry and has helped host and participated in many WRA events and fundraisers. She has been a Big Four Chapter Board Member since 2008.
