Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Dave Holtze was honored as the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) La Crosse Chapter, made up of La Crosse, Monroe, Jackson, Trempealeau and Vernon counties. Holtze retired recently with over 14 years of foodservice industry experience to his credit. He managed the Forest Hills Golf Course Restaurant and Banquet Facility in La Crosse for many years, worked as a Relationship Manager for Heartland Payment Systems and most recently worked at Culvers of Onalaska.

The OROY award will be presented to Holtze on January 22nd, at a WRA chapter meeting held at Piggy’s Restaurant in La Crosse. Sen Jennifer Shilling and Rep. Jim Billings have been invited to present a Legislative Citation to Holtze.

On Tuesday, March 12, Holtze will also be honored with a commendation medal at the 2013 WRA Awards Dinner gala, taking place at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Milwaukee. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the La Crosse Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

Holtze started in foodservice at the age of 16, working at a Dairy Queen as a delivery boy and pizza maker. He has been a longtime supporter of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and the foodservice industry. He has served as an officer in his local WRA chapter, on the WRA state board of directors for five years and as a PAC committee member for 10 years. He has been active in his local chapter for many years and was a huge factor in building a strong chapter in La Crosse. Holtze has also been active in his community serving as president of the La Crosse Convention and Visitors Bureau and serving two terms on the State of Wisconsin Tourism Board (appointed by Governor Doyle). He has also been active in politics throughout his career and has served as an elected and county official for 20 years. In 2012, Holtze was elected to the La Crosse County Board.

Holtze and his wife Lynn reside in LaCrosse. They have three children: Dave, Jr., Dean and Terri.
