Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Joe LoPiparo, of That’s Amore located in Greenfield, was honored as the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Milwaukee Chapter, made up of Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington and Ozaukee counties.

The OROY award was presented to LoPiparo on January 21st, at a WRA chapter meeting held at Wisconsin City Club in Milwaukee. Rep. Jeff Stone and Sen. Mary Lazich were in attendance to present a Legislative Citation to LoPiparo.

On Tuesday, March 12, LoPiparo will also be honored with a commendation medal at the 2013 WRA Awards Dinner gala, taking place at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Milwaukee. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the Milwaukee Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

LoPiparo has worked in the restaurant industry for over 25 years. That’s Amore is known for their Italian specialties and offers banquet facilities and outdoor patio seating. In 1981, when he was 21 years old, Lopiparo opened his first restaurant, Antonino’s with his father. Three years later, they expanded the small pizzeria into a full service restaurant. They opened their second location called That’s Amore in 1990.

Lopiparo grew up in Milwaukee and also lived in Italy for a few years when he was growing up. His family instilled in him a strong work ethic which was a big part in making his restaurants so successful. Joe realized early on the importance of information and relies heavily on technology and sales data to keep the restaurant on track. He also understands that the restaurant business is a people business and he believes the key to success is treating your customers like kings and queens.

LoPiparo has been a strong supporter of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and the restaurant industry. He has been an active WRA member over the years, hosting or participating in many events and fundraisers. He has two children: Gina and Tony.
