Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Mike Hable, owner of Bohemian Ovens located in Bloomer, was honored as the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) West Wisconsin Chapter, made up of Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Eau Claire and Jackson counties.

The OROY award will be presented to Hable on January 21st, at a WRA chapter meeting held at Yankee Jack’s at Princeton Valley Golf Course in Eau Claire. Sen. Terry Moulton and Rep. Tom Larson have been invited to present a Legislative Citation to Hable.

On Tuesday, March 12, Hable will also be honored with a commendation medal at the 2013 WRA Awards Dinner gala, taking place at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Milwaukee. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the West Wisconsin Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

Hable opened Bohemian Ovens 15 years ago as a bakery with 15 seats and expanded in 1999 to 80 seats with more extensive offerings including breakfast and lunch. The bakery and restaurant specializes in made-from-scratch bread made in a wood-fired brick oven and made-from-scratch soups. Hable built the brick oven with the help of family and friends after visiting a brick oven bakery in upstate New York.

Hable is involved with his community serving on the local school board in the 1980’s and he is a member of the area chamber of commerce. He also extended warm Wisconsin hospitality to visiting chefs from the Czech Republic. Hable has been very supportive of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and is very active with the West Wisconsin chapter.

Hable and his wife Sally reside in Bloomer and have six children: Alice, Rachel, Susan, Amanda, Nick and Megan.
