Pulaski High School Teacher Honored with Salute to Excellence Award

Pulaski High School teacher Liz Moehr is honored as the High School Educator recipient for the 2013 Salute to Excellence Awards, presented by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Education Foundation. The 2013 High School Educator Award is given to Moehr for her passion for teaching, strong commitment to ProStart® and dedication to the foodservice industry.

Moehr is a ProStart® instructor and has been a Family and Consumer Science educator at Pulaski High School for over 11 years. She has been extremely innovative in her use of technology in the classroom, highlighting students’ work and course materials on her blog and website, where she also offers links to valuable resources related to career and post-secondary advancement. In 2010, Moehr led her students to win the culinary competition at the Wisconsin ProStart Invitational and compete in the national competition, proving her dedication to the culinary arts and the preparation and success of her students. ProStart®, administered by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and the Wisconsin Restaurant Association, is a college prep, two-year curriculum designed to teach high school students the skills needed for a career in the restaurant and foodservice industry.

“Liz Moehr has shown incredible dedication to the Foundation and the foodservice industry,” says Bryan Mowry, Managing Director of the WRA Education Foundation. “Her enthusiasm for teaching really makes a difference to her students, the community and the future of the foodservice industry.”

This year, Moehr won Wisconsin’s ProStart Educator Excellence Award as well as the 2013 James H. Maynard Excellence in Education Award, a distinction given only to two ProStart instructors in the nation for their dedication to the program both in and out of the classroom. Moehr’s contributions to education, extracurricular programming, Foundation work and pursuing her own continuing education all combine to make her a well-deserving recipient of this award. In acknowledgment of these accomplishments, the WRA Education Foundation proudly honors Liz Moehr as the 2013 Salute to Excellence High School Educator.

Each year, the WRA EF recognizes five individuals and one company for dedication and commitment to education in the restaurant industry as Salute to Excellence honorees. Other 2013 Salute to Excellence honorees include: Richard Busalacchi (Milwaukee Area Technical College, Milwaukee); Marie Collins (Badger High School, Lake Geneva); Peter Gebauer, GMC (Potawatomi Bingo Casino, Milwaukee); Mark and Jean Landreman (Landreman’s Family Restaurant, Kaukauna); and New Era Marketing. Each honoree creates opportunities for people interested in foodservice industry careers. They have worked in a variety of roles, in different parts of the state, but they share an enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the restaurant industry.

The Salute to Excellence awards are presented at the 2013 Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, October 13 at Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau. More information on the event is available at www.wirestaurant.org.
