Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Jim Martine, owner of Pedro’s Mexican Restaurante located in Madison, was honored as the Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Madison Chapter, made up of Dane and Jefferson counties. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the Madison Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

The OROY award will be presented to Martine on February 3rd, at a WRA chapter meeting held at the Radisson Hotel in Madison. Sen Mark Miller and Rep. Melissa Sargent have been invited to present a Legislative Citation to Martine.

On Tuesday, March 11, Martine will also be honored with a commendation medal at the 2014 WRA Awards Dinner gala, taking place at Potawatomi Bingo Casino near downtown Milwaukee.

Martine is active in the community, being involved in the Monona Grove Football Booster Club and serving as Vice President, donating time to local charities like United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Dane County, offering staffing to Taste of Madison and participating in the National W Club, to name a few. And, he has been very supportive of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and the restaurant industry, having taken a leadership role at both the chapter and state level.

Martine notes that the highlight of his career has been winning the Best of Madison Gold Award. He has also enjoyed forming special relationships with his current and past employees, as well as having the opportunity to serve food at special events with his children over the years.

Martine lives in Madison with his wife Colleen. He has three children: Meghan, James and Steven.

WRA represents a broad range of foodservice operations and is dedicated to promoting and improving the restaurant industry. For more information, visit www.wirestaurant.org.
