Sally HeuerWest Bend High Schools Teacher Honored with Salute to Excellence Award

West Bend High School teacher Sally Heuer is honored as a High School Educator recipient for the 2015 Salute to Excellence Awards, presented by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation (WRA Education Foundation). The 2015 High School Educator Award is given to Heuer for her passion for teaching, strong commitment to ProStart® and dedication to the foodservice industry.

Being a culinary and hospitality instructor comes naturally for Heuer, who has worked in the industry for 29 years and taught ProStart® for the past 9 years. In the summer, Heuer continues teaching students the art of cooking by hosting classes for elementary and middle school students. She also serves as a certified ServSafe® instructor and proctor.

“Sally has an amazing ability to inspire students and encourage them to further their knowledge of the industry,” said Connie Fedor, Executive Director of the WRA Education Foundation. “Several of her past students have gone on to have very successful culinary careers because of her passion for the restaurant and hospitality industry.”

In addition to her commitment to education, Heuer is also a strong supporter of the foodservice industry and her community participating in activities such as “Breakfast with Santa,” Harvest House and the MACC fundraising dinner. She is also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Moose, Co-President of the West Bend Education Association and member of the 3/334 United States Army Family Readiness Group.

Each year, the WRA Education Foundation recognizes individuals in five categories and one company for dedication and commitment to education in the restaurant industry as Salute to Excellence honorees. With an overwhelming response to the program, the WRA Education Foundation has decided to choose seven honorees for this year’s Salute. Other 2015 Salute to Excellence honorees include: Vicki Mendham (Nicolet College, Rhinelander); Michael Tsuchihashi (Atlas BBQ, Grafton); Laura Cronan (Nekoosa High School, Nekoosa); David Ross (Lake Lawn Resort, Delavan); Don Thompson (Red Mill Supper Club, Stevens Point); and Woolsey and Associates (Waukesha). Each honoree creates opportunities for people interested in foodservice industry careers. They have worked in a variety of roles and in different parts of the state, but they share an enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the restaurant industry.

The Salute to Excellence awards are presented at the 2015 Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, October 25 at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in Downtown Milwaukee. More information on the event is available at www.wirestaurant.org.
