Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Jill Schneiter, of Gala Resort and Campgrounds in Fremont, is being honored as Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Big Four Chapter made up of Waupaca, Outagamie, Winnebago and Green Lake counties. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the Big Four Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

The OROY award will be presented to Schneiter on January 11th at a WRA chapter meeting held at the Grand Meridian in Appleton. A Legislative Citation will be presented to Schneiter at the meeting.

On Tuesday, March 8th, Schneiter was also honored with a commendation medal at the 2016 WRA Awards Dinner gala, which took place at The Grain Exchange by Bartolotta Catering & Events in Milwaukee.

The Schneiter family purchased the campgrounds in Fremont in 2000 and made many improvements through the years. After a house fire that burned the building completely down, they rebuilt it. They opened the bar in 2003 and put in a kitchen in the Spring of 2004. They expanded the dining room and added a patio for outdoor dining in 2005. In 2008, they added an upper patio and outside bar.

The resort is especially known for its Thursday night steakfry in the summer and large selection of microbrews, many from the surrounding area.

Schneiter has been active with the WRA for many years and served on the Big Four Chapter Board from 2008 through 2013. She is also has been active with the Fremont Chamber of Commerce having served as secretary and president.

Schneiter lives in Fremont and has three children RC Schroeder, Brett Schroeder and Schelagh Dehler.
