Local Restaurant Owner Honored As Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year

Neal Wellner, of Connell’s Supper Club in Chippewa Falls, is being honored as Outstanding Restaurateur of the Year (OROY) by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) West Wisconsin Chapter, made up of Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Eau Claire and Jackson counties. The OROY award is given by fellow members of the West Wisconsin Chapter based on success in business, community service and dedication to the restaurant industry.

The OROY award was presented to Wellner on January 18th at a WRA chapter meeting held at Eagle’s Club Banquet Hall & Conference Center in Chippewa Falls. A Legislative Citation was also presented to Wellner at the meeting.

On Tuesday, March 8th, Wellner was also honored with a commendation medal at the 2016 WRA Awards Dinner gala, which took place at The Grain Exchange by Bartolotta Catering & Events in Milwaukee.

Wellner took a job at a bar & grill in Edson 27 years ago. He then began working for Connell’s Supper Club in 1990. Coming from a rural background, he didn’t know at the time that the restaurant industry would be a longtime career for him. He currently is the manager for Connell’s Supper Club in Chippewa Falls.

According to Connell’s Supper Club owner Lynn Mc Donough, “Wellner is always ready to lend an open ear to customers having a bad day and hopes that by the time the customers leave they have felt welcome and that their day is a little brighter.”

Wellner is active in his community and is a member of the following: Local Lions Club, local Chamber of Commerce and fundraising committee for the local hospital. When not working at Connell’s, he loves to travel.
