Mike BuckarmaBecket’s Executive Chef Honored with Salute to Excellence Award

Executive Chef Mike Buckarma of Becket’s in Oshkosh will receive the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) Education Foundation’s Salute to Excellence Chef Award at the industry’s Celebration of Excellence dinner taking place on October 23 at the Heidel House in Green Lake. He is honored for his dedication to excellence in foodservice and his passion for educating and training the future leaders of the industry.

“Chef Buckarma is a strong supporter of education and is committed to helping young professionals reach their full potential,” said Connie Fedor, Executive Director of the WRA Education Foundation. “He believes education plays a key role in not only sustaining a strong industry, but in growing in it.”

Chef Buckarma is a distinguished foodservice leader who also makes time to sponsor and volunteer for community organizations and events. He regularly volunteers his time and talents at Fox Valley Technical College and its Culinary Alumnus Club, offering advice to culinary students. He has also served as the Lead ProStart® Invitational knife skills judge at the Midwest Foodservice Expo.

Previously, Buckarma served as a former Board Member of the WRA Big Four Chapter and the ACF Chefs Fox Valley Chapter and was named Fox Valley ACF Chapter Chef of the Year in 2011.

Each year, the WRA Education Foundation recognizes five individuals and one company for dedication and commitment to education in the restaurant industry as Salute to Excellence honorees. Other 2016 Salute to Excellence honorees include: Katie Koel (Blackhawk Technical College, Janesville); Kayla Correll (Greendale High School, Greendale); Michael Althen (Elite Catering, Baraboo); Glenda Woosley (Culver’s of Darboy; Darboy); and Jones Dairy Farm (Fort Atkinson). Each honoree creates opportunities for people interested in foodservice industry careers. They have worked in a variety of roles and in different parts of the state, but they share enthusiasm and optimism for the future of the restaurant industry.

The Salute to Excellence awards will be presented at the 2016 Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, October 23 at the Heidel House in Green Lake. More information on the event is available at www.wirestaurant.org.
