State College Student Culinary Competition results announced

College students from around the state competed in two culinary competitions as part of the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo on March 14, 2007.  The College Student Culinary Arts Competition consists of 2 unique competitions for students, the College Team Hot Food Competition and the Cold Plate Competition.  Both portions of the competition are held by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation to give students the opportunity to exercise their culinary skills and showcase their talents.  The College Competitions hosted a total of 51 students from 7 different schools. 

In the Cold Plate Competition, students used veal and/or beef as the meat for their entrée to design and present beautifully plated meals that were judged by experienced chefs from around Wisconsin soley on presentation.  Top-ranking entries were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals and cash prizes.

In the Hot Food competition, teams of four students each created two four course meals that were judged by experienced chefs from around Wisconsin.  Gold, silver and bronze medals as well as cash prizes were awarded to the top-ranking entries. 

The Wisconsin Beef Council and the Veal Committee of the Wisconsin Beef Council sponsored this year’s College Student Culinary Arts Competitions.

SUMMARY OF RESULTS:
Hot Food Competition
The Madison Area Technical College team was awarded first place.  The winning MATC team consists of Christopher Tuttle, Melinda Pannier, Angela Trentadue, Kaylyn Swendrzynski and Matt Stoner.

The Blackhawk Technical College team won second place.  The winning Blackhawk Technical College team consisted of Victoria Sels, James Sandlin, Stan Arnold, Sarah Sample and Joshua Stinnett

The Moraine Park Technical College team won third place.  The winning MPTC team consists of Dace Branson, Michael Kienau, Jackie Kramer, Josh Nigbor and John Dana.

Cold Plate Competition
Noylin Villalobos, from Nicolet Area Technical College won first place.

Linda Meyer, Moraine Park Technical College won second place.

Cameron Mandli from Gateway Technical College won third place.
