There are companies in existence currently bombarding restaurants with mailings about required state and federal workplace posters. These companies make it seem like major revisions have been made to the posters. However, generally the changes are not in content, but rather in format. Often the mailings are made to seem like they are from an official government agency that will issue fines or sentence you to jail time if you don’t immediately send them a check for $150 (or whatever exorbitant price that particular company is charging.)
The Short Story: While you do need to display workplace posters, WRA has these posters available for members and non-members and you do not need to pay inflated prices.
The Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) first created our set of labor law posters in 2001. This set has individually laminated posters that meet both the state and federal requirements. As needed, we send out individual updated or revised posters when significant changes are made to law.
The WRA checks in with Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the federal Department of Labor throughout the year to see if significant changes have been made. If so, we include them in our annual HERO updates to WRA Members. This year’s HERO update will include the recently revised federal Equal Employment is the Law (EEO), Wisconsin Minimum Wage and Wisconsin Family and Medical Leave Law.
This summer, WRA Members were sent paper copies of the two revised Wisconsin posters in the June/July issue of WRA News. If you’re concerned about the recently revised federal EEO poster, you may print out a copy of the new poster or the supplemental poster to display until you receive the laminated copies of the revised posters in your HERO update this winter.
If you’re not sure that you’ve kept your original set up-to-date or would like an additional set of easy-to-clean laminated copies, you may order a Labor Law Poster Pack from the WRA. Non-laminated sets are accessible for download free of charge from WRA’s link to the DWD website.
Keep in mind that not every employer must display every poster. Check the posting requirements page in the WRA HERO manual or review the chart on the DWD’s website.
Most importantly, don’t panic and pay too much for the posters! WRA is here to save you money!
